Life Lately & Midlife Lessons. Why I created the HEAL Reset™

Life doesn’t get less busy in midlife. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really takes to stay healthy, strong and consistent when work, family, stress, menopause and real life are all happening at once.

It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve simply sat down and shared what’s been happening behind the scenes — both at HEAL Wellness and in my own life.

And there’s been a lot.

Between work, coaching, training, volunteering with CFA, family, getting outdoors when I can and all the normal stuff that fills our weeks, life certainly hasn’t slowed down.

At the same time, I’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes at HEAL Wellness.

I’ve been thinking about the kind of coach I want to be, the women I want to help and, most importantly, what women in midlife actually need from health and fitness coaching.

And everything keeps bringing me back to one thing:

Your health has to work in your real life

Not the imaginary life where you sleep eight perfect hours every night.

Where you meal prep every Sunday.

Never get stressed.

Never miss a workout.

And wake up motivated every morning. 😂

I’m talking about actual life.

The weeks where work is crazy.

The nights when you don’t sleep well.

Family commitments.

Holidays.

Stress.

Low-energy days.

And all the unexpected things life throws at us.

Because if your approach to health only works when everything else is going perfectly, it probably isn’t going to work for very long.

And I think this becomes even more important as we move through our 40s, 50s and beyond.

When your body starts changing, the instinct is often to try harder

I’ve been in health and fitness for a long time.

I’m a Personal Trainer, Nutritionist and Health & Wellness Coach. I understand training and nutrition, and movement has always been an important part of my life.

In my 40s, I was probably the fittest I’d ever been.

I strength trained, trail ran, went to the gym and ate well.

Then things started changing.

My sleep.

Mood.

Energy.

Libido.

Hot flushes.

Recovery.

And eventually, my body composition.

At the time, I didn’t necessarily put all those pieces together and think perimenopause.

And like so many women, when my body stopped responding in quite the same way, my first thought wasn’t:

Maybe my needs have changed.

It was more like:

What do I need to do better?

Eat less?

Train harder?

Do more cardio?

Be more disciplined?

Try harder?

Sound familiar?

What if trying harder isn’t actually what you need?

This is something I talk about a lot now.

It doesn’t mean nutrition doesn’t matter.

It absolutely does.

It doesn’t mean we ignore energy balance if fat loss is a goal.

And it certainly doesn’t mean exercise suddenly stops being important once we reach midlife.

What it does mean is that continually adding more restriction, more exercise and more pressure isn't necessarily the best answer.

Sometimes we need to look at the whole picture.

Strength. Nutrition. Daily movement. Sleep. Recovery. Stress. Habits. And what you can realistically sustain.

That's very different from simply being told to:

Eat Less & Move More

Most women don't need more information

This has probably been one of the biggest changes in the way I coach.

Most women I speak to already know quite a lot about health.

You probably know vegetables are good for you.

You've heard you should eat more protein.

You know exercise is important.

You may even know strength training should be part of your week.

And you definitely know sleep matters — even if actually getting enough of it is another story. 😂

The problem often isn't knowing.

It's taking everything you know and actually making it work around:

Work. Family. Stress. Poor sleep. Changing energy. Menopause. Social occasions. Holidays. And life.

That's why I'm much less interested these days in:

“Here's your perfect plan. Follow it.”

And much more interested in:

Where are you now?

What's getting in your way?

What does your body need?

What actually deserves your attention?

What's realistic for your life?

And...

What can we build that doesn't disappear the moment you have a bad week?

Because health isn't just built during the weeks when everything goes perfectly.

It's built by learning how to keep going when it doesn't.

And that's why I created the HEAL Reset™

Over the past few months, I've been quietly working behind the scenes on something I'm really proud of.

I've completely rebuilt my 14-day program into the new:

HEAL Reset™

And there was one thing I was very clear about from the beginning.

I didn't want to create another:

“Transform your body in 14 days!”

program.

The HEAL Reset™ isn't a detox.

It's not a strict meal plan.

It's not an extreme exercise challenge.

And I'm not going to promise that 14 days will magically fix everything.

Instead, it's designed to give you something I think is far more valuable:

A better place to start.

UNDERSTAND → BUILD → BELIEVE

The HEAL Reset™ takes you through three stages over 14 days.

💜 UNDERSTAND

Start understanding what's happening, where you are now and what actually deserves your attention.

💜 BUILD

Begin putting realistic actions in place around nutrition, strength, movement, recovery and wellbeing.

💜 BELIEVE

Start building confidence in your ability to look after yourself without needing to do everything perfectly.

You'll receive daily coaching from me, simple HEAL Actions, practical education and reflection through your guided workbook.

You'll also complete your health and exercise onboarding before you begin.

I personally review that information and select appropriate strength and mobility sessions based on you and where you're starting from, with home and gym options available.

Because I don't believe every woman should be handed exactly the same workout and told to get on with it.

Maybe you don't need another fresh start

How many times have you said:

“I'll start again Monday.”

After the weekend.

After the holiday.

When work settles down.

After Christmas.

When you're feeling more motivated.

When life isn't so busy.

I've certainly done it.

But life rarely clears the diary and announces:

“Right Lisa, you've got six completely stress-free weeks now. Go sort your health out.” 😂

There will always be something.

So maybe the answer isn't getting better at starting over.

Maybe it's getting better at continuing imperfectly.

Doing the strength session when you can.

Going for a walk when that's what you've got capacity for.

Making your next meal a nourishing one rather than writing off the entire day.

Resting when your body genuinely needs recovery.

And coming back to the habits that support you without turning one difficult day into three difficult weeks.

That's the kind of health I'm interested in helping women build.

Strong.

Healthy.

Capable.

Realistic.

And sustainable enough to still exist when life gets messy.

So, where do you start?

If you've read this and thought:

“Yep Lisa, this sounds like me.”

There are two ways you can start.

If you're still trying to make sense of the changes happening in midlife and want to understand what you should actually be focusing on, start with my:

🎁 FREE Menopause Reset Guide
