What is IPL Therapy?

Intense Pulsed Light Therapy is a specialised skin treatment that treats a variety of skin conditions all performed on the one machine. The main treatment performed is permanent hair reduction.

Hair removal, how it works!

IPL operates in a pulse burst mode, which administersthe light in a sequence of pulses with a short delay between each one. The delay duration between each pulse plus the added benefit of a cooling mechanism in the hand piece, allows the epidermis to cool, yet the cooling is just enought so as to not prevent the hair follicle to cool. The IPL hand piece sends out the light pulses which target the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle (papilla). When the light reaches its target it is converted into heat and inturn destroys the papilla, blood supply and stem cells in the follicle. The irreversible thermal damage to the hair follicle is sufficient to prevent re-growth.

Possible Side Effects

• A mild sunburn sensation is expected

• Redness

• Local swelling

After Treatment

Avoid sun exposure and use a broad spectrum SPF 30+ as this will prevent pigment changes. Clients are required to prevent sun exposure to the treatment area for a minimum of 4 weeks. Do not use extremely hot water on the area for 24-48 hours. MIld stinging is normal for up to 48 hours. Apply cool compresses or aloe vera gel to the area for relief. Do not pluck or wax the treatment area for the duration of the treatment program, you may only shave the area.

How many treatments will I need?

Each person and area responds differently as there is many variables for individual treatment, but on average a treatment program consists of 6-8 treatments at 4 to 6 weekls intervals.

Note - Blonde, grey and white hair are not able to be treated at this time with IPL alone, reduction may be acheived through full hair extraction followed by IPL on a different skin condition setting. If you would like to know more please dont hesitiate to book a consultation.
